Certificate of Achievement

The Certificate of Achievement in Mathematics provides students with the mathematical background required to succeed in subsequent courses in mathematics, physics, computer science, and engineering. By earning this certificate, students have demonstrated that they possess the mathematical skills that are necessary to begin upper division coursework requiring more rigorous mathematical skills. Completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Mathematics represents a completion of applicable major units needed to obtain a degree in Mathematics.

To be awarded a certificate, a student must:

  1. Complete all the program requirements.
  2. Earn a grade of 鈥淐鈥 (or "P") or better for all required courses.

Upon successful completion of this program a student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate computational, estimation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Explain and apply basic concepts of single variable calculus including various forms of derivatives and integrals, their interconnections, and their uses.
  • Construct mathematical models of physical problems, draw conclusions from these models, and communicate their conclusions.
